The large scale development of renewables in the Mediterranean requires great effort on the part of all the actors concerned, a strong political will, reinforcement /strengthening of existing production capacity – all factors essential to attract significant investment in the region. In this context and through the RESD Committee, OME is playing an active role in the significant development of the use of renewable energy in the Mediterranean.

The Committee aims to become the reference for the development of renewable energy in the region. Another important role that the Committee is filling is that of 'leader' in bringing to fruition the Mediterranean Renewable Energy Programme, a Type II Initiative launched by the Italian government in Johannesburg. Finally the Committee has the important role of informing the members of OME on its activities and on all aspects related to the European and Mediterranean Renewable Energy market
