ENERGY ANLYST

 

The Observatoire Méditerranéen de l’Energie (OME) is an association of 35 leading energy companies operating in the Mediterranean region. The OME is committed to bringing together the knowledge and experience of its members and is a unique forum where its Members can work together to address the energy and environment challenges of the Mediterranean.

The OME is seeking an expert in modeling and statistics of energy to work in the Monitoring and Modeling Division as an energy analyst: modeling, drafting reports and carrying out the full range of studies and other tasks listed below.

 

Job Duties: 

1.      Energy Analysis

  • Collect information and conduct research and analysis of energy demand data for the Mediterranean countries. Update, improve and develop OME’s statistical database.
  • Follow-up infrastructure developments and projects in the Mediterranean Region.
  • Update profiles of countries within the region but also follow the developments worldwide.
  • Model energy demand and design scenarios for the energy future of the Mediterranean using specific econometric tools.


2. Drafting and Liaison

  • Prepare written and oral briefs, papers and presentations on key developments.  
  • Represent the OME and make presentations at external conferences and seminars.
  • Draft country and regional chapters of the annual flagship publication of the OME, the Mediterranean Energy Perspectives. Analyze the policy or geopolitical implications of energy developments for the Mediterranean region.
  • Contribute to other OME publications: Writing articles for OME’s biannual journal, the GEM, publishing articles in energy reviews etc.

 

3.Outreach

· Establish and maintain appropriate contacts with the public sector and industry of the countries in the Mediterranean region with the aim of encouraging mutual understanding and increasing exchange of information.

·Organize projects on energy matters (published studies, conferences and committee reports) involving countries in the region. This usually involves thorough conceptual and organizational preparation, guidance in the execution phase, and substantial drafting or editing, as well as traveling and organizing logistical aspects of missions.

 Qualifications: education, experience, communication and languages

 1. Education and experience

· A university degree in economics, energy economics or other relevant discipline, preferably at Master’s or Doctorate’s level.

· Good understanding of energy balances and methodologies.

· Good familiarity with global energy policy, in particular of the energy policies of Mediterranean countries.

· At least five years experience of working on energy issues, including some dealing with Mediterranean governments and/or industry.

· Sound analytical skills and experience in econometric modeling and the ability to take a strategic overview of the impact of energy policy across a wide region.

· Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations at both national and international level. Ability to build a strong network of contacts with government and industry throughout the region.

· Experience of working in a multicultural environment would be an advantage.

 

2. Communication and OME official languages

· Good written and oral presentation skills, with the ability to convey key points clearly and concisely.

· Excellent written and oral knowledge of English. The knowledge of another language, especially Arabic, would be an advantage.

· Proficiency in excel and VBA a must, knowledge of Eviews and of a simulation software would be an advantage.
